How much does self-fulfilling prophecy matter in our life work?

Everywhere we turn we are hit with waves of negativity without even realizing it. Turn on the news, what do you hear? A shooting, a murder, a kidnapping. You name it. Bad news. Despite the plethora of amazing things that also happen each day. News media feeds on our fears.

Imagine what would happen if were were given a more positive, upbeat report on the day’s activities. Imagine how that might influence our thinking and our outlook on the world. While this is not something we can expect from news media, it is something we can feed ourselves.

Feeding ourselves with positivity begins with our thoughts – our thinking. In the prelude of the book ‘As a Man Thinketh’ by James Allen [View on Amazon], it reads:

“Mind is the Master power that moulds and makes,
And Man is Mind and evermore he takes
The Tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, and a thousand ills: –
He thinks in secret and comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking glass.”

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

The idea of self-fulfilling prophecy is alluded to in the fifth line of the prelude: “He thinks in secret and it comes to pass.” The thoughts we feed ourselves and how we respond to them has everything to do with our life experience – and our life work.
